Louis Napoleon was born in St-Césaire on February 19, 1858. He is the eleventh child of Onésime and Arméline Baron. At an undetermined age, he move to Indian Orchard, MA, where his brother Césaire already lived. This is where he met his future wife. I cannot say whether she went to this place with her parents or with a family member. At that time, a girl was not traveling alone.

On August 21, 1881 in Indian Orchard, now a district of Springfield, MA, he married Rosalie Dame. Having only in hand the civil registration to date, I could not find the parish where he married. The couple did not reside long in the United States. After the birth of their first child, they decided to return to Quebec to settle at 17 St-Henri Cazelais street. The street number was changed after the annexation of St-Henri by Montreal in 1905; this is where Rémi childhood happened. Children are baptized in the parish of St-Henri and Ste-Élisabeth which was separated in 1894.

At an unspecified date, after the birth of their last child, the couple moved to Old Orchard Street to Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, possibly at number 17. Later, he became owner of a duplex at 85 of the same street. After the annexation of that municipality in Montreal, the civic number 85 will be changed to 1049. The couple lived at this place at the time of their death.

What were Louis-Napoléon's jobs? He is our first ancestor to stop  working as a farmer. In the United States, he said he was a clerk. Later he claimed to be an engineer or mechanic to describe his work. In fact Louis Napoleon was never an engineer. Having worked for the city of Montreal, he was given the job normally belonging to an engineer.

He is after Michel Messier, the first ancestor who can read and write. Six generations that preceded him, all declared not to know.

To this date, I have not done any research on Louis Napoleon's visit to the notary. It is sure that he went there, if only for the purchase of his house on Old Orchard Street. In the early 20th century, research is longer and harder.

Louis Napoleon died in Montreal on November 1st, 1922, at sixty-four years old. He is buried with his wife, who died twenty-five years later, in lot number R1338 of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery in Montreal. Several of the couple's children and grandchildren are with them.
